Engawa (縁侧 or 掾侧) refers to the typically wooden strip of flooring immediately before windows and stormshutters inside traditional Japanese rooms. Recently this term has also come to mean the veranda outside of the room as well, which was traditionally referred to as a nure'en (濡れ縁)原指连接传统和室和户外空间的木结构走廊，现也指将室外空间和室内空间相接的走廊。
